5th edition of Arunachal Literature Festival 2023 begins

Home & IPR & Printing Minister Bamang Felix today said that the government is committed to providing every support for the cause of literary progress and called upon the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society to draw out a pragmatic mechanism to upkeep the literary mission in the state.

Addressing the inaugural session of the three-day long 5th edition of Arunachal Literature Festival 2023 at DK Convention Hall here this evening, Felix invited young people to participate and watch the literary discourses during various sessions to sharpen and enhance their talent of writing.

Felix observed that the ‘World is not complete without literature’ as it is passed down from generation to generation, and hence advocated for more such literary outcomes to carry forward to the coming generations.

Applauding the state’s literary pioneers and mentors – Padmashree and Sahitya Academy Awardee Y D Thongchi, Padmashree Mamang Dai, and late Lummer Dai for their contributions towards achieving this momentum to the literary world in the state, thus providing a platform to the local writers/poets to have meaningful discussions to upgrade skills, the IPR & P Minister hoped for fruitful interactions during the two day sessions in various aspects.

Themed “Read, Reflect, Reimagine”, the 5th edition of the Arunachal Literature Festival, being organized by the Department of Information & Public Relations in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) is a calendar event aimed at promoting creative writings through interface between the local writers and established authors/writers, besides giving a forum to encourage the local emerging talents to enhance their skills in creative writing.

Gracing the occasion as Guest of honour, Laisam Simai, Advisor to Minister IRP & Printing said that the Arunachal Literature Festival is the biggest platform ever given to young budding talents of the state to explore their potential in writing and hone their skills in creative writing. Stating that the government is providing ample opportunities to promote young potential, he called upon budding writers to enhance their art of writing by interacting with established writers and authors and translating their imagination into reality.

Delighted with the large turn-out and enthusiasm towards literary activities, which is higher than the previous years, Simai attributed the progress to Padmashree Thongchi and Padmashree Dai for pioneering and guiding the literary movement in the state. Welcoming each one of the authors and poets to the event for successful brainstorming sessions during the next two days, Simai urged them to keep inspiring the young generations of the state to go ahead in the field of literature.

Secretary, Sahitya Akademi, Dr. K. Sreenivasara, in his speech, said that the literature festival brings together the best of minds, provides freedom of creativity, and brings new knowledge for betterment of the society.

IPR Director Onyok Pertin and Deputy Director Marbang Ezing also spoke on the occasion.

The three day Arunachal Lit Fest began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries followed by a welcome song by the students from Green Mount School, Itanagar. Other highlights of the inaugural session included the release of five books, and a cultural display by the Department of Arts & Culture. Book exhibitions by the Research department and other book sellers including Reader’s Realm, besides stalls displaying arts & crafts etc are part of the festival. 

Earlier in the day, an on-the spot Essay and Painting competition was conducted to mark the event, where altogether 96 (ninety-six) children from various schools of the capital complex participated. The winners would be awarded prizes in the valedictory program.  

Days 2 & 3 will have many exciting sessions covering various aspects of literature by eminent authors/writers, besides a Poetry Workshop with Tenzin Tsundue, a Prose Workshop with Pari Hilodari, Poetry Recitation, Short Story Reading, etc.
