Dholai: Campaigning in the run-up to the upcoming elections, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday laid out an ambitious roadmap for infrastructure and public welfare development in Dholai, while strongly backing BJP candidate Amiya Kanti Das.

Addressing a large gathering at Palonghat in Dholai, the Chief Minister announced a series of projects aimed at improving healthcare, road connectivity, and land rights in the region. Stressing the government’s focus on grassroots development, Sarma said that a 100-bedded hospital would be established in Dholai to significantly enhance healthcare access for residents who currently depend on distant medical facilities.

“The government is committed to ensuring that quality healthcare reaches every corner of Assam. This proposed hospital will be a major step in that direction,” he said.

Highlighting connectivity as a key driver of economic growth, Sarma spoke about plans to strengthen road infrastructure in the Barak Valley. He outlined proposals for a National Highway connecting Silchar to Hailakandi via Assam University, as well as an alternative route through Dholai. These projects, he said, would not only reduce travel time but also open up new avenues for trade and mobility.

In another major announcement, the Chief Minister revealed plans for the construction of a bridge over the Sonai River at Amraghat. The proposed bridge is expected to ease transportation challenges faced by local residents and improve access between remote areas, especially during the monsoon season when connectivity is often disrupted.

Addressing long-standing concerns over land ownership, Sarma assured that land pattas would be distributed to eligible beneficiaries in the region. He acknowledged that land rights have remained a critical issue for many families in Dholai and said the government is working towards resolving these challenges in a time-bound manner.

Calling for public support, Sarma urged voters to elect Amiya Kanti Das, stating that continued development would depend on a stable government aligned with the state’s vision for progress. “We need your support to carry forward the development agenda and ensure that Dholai gets the attention it deserves,” he added.

The rally was attended by several senior BJP leaders, including Minister Kaushik Rai, Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya, Rajya Sabha MP Kavita Patidar, Cachar BJP president Rupam Saha, and MLA Nihar Ranjan Das, among others.

With elections approaching, the announcements signal a renewed push by the ruling party to consolidate support in the Barak Valley by focusing on infrastructure expansion and welfare measures.
