Silchar: The Silchar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has undertaken a spirited weeklong observance of World Toilet Day, transforming the Trunk Road and Dak Bunglow public toilets into vibrant hubs of cleanliness awareness and community engagement. The initiative, held on November 19 was spearheaded by SMC Commissioner Srishti Singh, IAS, whose active leadership added momentum to the civic body’s ongoing mission for a cleaner and more responsible Silchar.
During the programme, the Commissioner, accompanied by the Executive Officer of SMC,Nabuttom Sharma, Pourasakhis, collection agency supervisors and the Shrishti Waste Management Team, assessed the facilities and interacted with the frontline workers responsible for maintaining them.
Both the Trunk Road and Dak Bunglow public toilets have now been made fully functional from World Toilet Day onward, offering citizens improved access to clean, safe and hygienic sanitation services.
Reacting to the initiative, Commissioner Srishti Singh appreciated the sincere efforts of all teams involved and emphasised that well-maintained public toilets are a reflection of a city’s civic discipline. She stated that the success of such initiatives depends not only on infrastructure but also on public participation, urging citizens to treat these facilities responsibly and support SMC’s ongoing cleanliness mission.
In recognition of their commitment, Commissioner Singh felicitated the individuals who have been consistently ensuring the upkeep of these important public amenities. Their contributions, she said, reflect the spirit of Swachh Silchar and reinforce the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining shared spaces.
