Guwahati | The Assam government will restart the rollout of several flagship welfare schemes from August after a temporary pause during the Budget period, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced  .

Speaking during a live interaction from the CM Library, Sarma said the next phase of the Orunodoi scheme will commence on August 3, with meetings to be held in every panchayat where beneficiaries will receive the first instalment of assistance.

The Chief Minister also announced that certificates under the Nijut Moina Asoni and Nijut Babu Asoni schemes will be distributed in colleges on August 6 and 7 after the completion of the admission process. Students will be required to complete the necessary formalities and return the certificates, following which regular benefit disbursements are expected to begin from September.

In another welfare push, the government will resume the distribution of subsidised rice, sugar and pulses from August, providing relief to eligible households across the state.

Sarma further said that graduates enrolled under the Jibon Prerana scheme will start receiving benefits from September. The initiative is aimed at supporting educated youth and enhancing employment opportunities.

Highlighting the government’s land reform efforts, the Chief Minister said nearly 10 lakh beneficiaries have been covered under the Basundhara 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 programmes. He announced that Basundhara 4.0 will be launched on December 25, featuring a dedicated online portal where citizens can submit unresolved land-related grievances for redressal.

The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to creating two lakh employment opportunities over the next five years, adding that development and welfare initiatives that had been temporarily paused ahead of the Budget session would now gather pace.

Sarma also encouraged families to promote reading habits among children and youth by maintaining home libraries or dedicated bookshelves. He noted that the CM Library currently houses around 5,000 books, underscoring the importance of cultivating a reading culture in society.

The announcements form part of the state government’s broader welfare and development agenda, with a renewed focus on social assistance, education, employment generation and land governance in the months ahead.
