Bajali | Major Rupam Das, a native of Dubi Kathokuchi village in Assam’s Bajali district, has been awarded the Sena Medal (Gallantry) for his bravery during military operations in Manipur. The award was announced as part of the gallantry honours approved by President Droupadi Murmu ahead of Independence Day 2026.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the President approved 78 gallantry awards, including 13 posthumous honours, for personnel of the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces.

Major Das, bearing service number IC-83402N, is serving with 8 Bihar of the Indian Army and is currently posted in Manipur. He was among the personnel recognised with the Sena Medal (Gallantry) for his conduct during operations in the region.

The honour has brought recognition to Major Das’s native village and the wider Bajali district, with local residents expressing pride in his achievement. The Sena Medal is awarded to members of the Armed Forces for individual acts of exceptional courage and devotion to duty.
