Guwahati: BJP MLA Manab Deka on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), alleging that the institution was creating a “water bomb” that could eventually devastate Guwahati.

Speaking to reporters, the Lakhimpur MLA claimed that activities being carried out at USTM posed a serious threat to the city. However, he did not elaborate on the specific basis for his allegation.

“USTM is preparing a water bomb. That water bomb will destroy Guwahati,” Deka said. The BJP legislator also sought to link the university with the Congress party, alleging close ties between the institution’s management and the opposition party.

“Congress and USTM are like siblings. There is a close relationship between Congress and USTM owner Mahbubul Hoque,” Deka claimed. No response from USTM or the Congress party was immediately available regarding the allegations at the time of filing this report.
