Guwahati: BJP MLA Vijay Gupta’s speech at a Zubeen Divas tribute programme in Guwahati’s Fancy Bazar has drawn attention after several factual errors were noticed in his remarks about the late singer Zubeen Garg’s career.

Speaking at the event, Gupta claimed that Zubeen Garg had sung more than 3,000 songs in 40 languages. He also said that the singer’s first album was titled W. However, established records identify Anamika, released in 1992, as Zubeen Garg’s debut album.

Gupta also referred to Zubeen Garg’s film Mission China, which was released in 2017. The remarks were made during a programme organised to mark the first Zubeen Divas. The speech has since drawn attention, with several details about the singer’s career requiring correction.
