Silchar: Cachar district is fully geared up for the Assembly elections scheduled on April 9, with elaborate arrangements put in place to ensure smooth and peaceful polling across all constituencies.

A total of 1,732 polling stations have been established across seven constituencies in the district. Notably, nearly 400 of these booths will be managed entirely by women, marking a significant push towards inclusive participation in the electoral process.

To manage the exercise, around 9,000 polling personnel have been deployed. Security has also been strengthened with nearly 4,000 security staff, while the overall manpower, including reserve forces and CAPF units, has reached close to 16,000.

Cachar has over 13.88 lakh registered voters who are expected to cast their votes in this crucial phase of the elections.

Polling materials were dispatched on April 8, with teams scheduled to reach their respective stations by evening. Authorities have identified 530 locations as sensitive and have taken extra precautions in these areas to maintain law and order.

Officials have urged voters to come out in large numbers and exercise their democratic rights without fear, assuring that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure a safe and fair polling process.
