Centre Releases First Rs 75.6 Crore Tranche of Rs 252 Crore Flood Recovery Package for Tripura

Agartala : The Central government has released the first instalment of Rs 75.60 crore from a sanctioned Rs 252 crore recovery and reconstruction package for Tripura to support rehabilitation efforts following the devastating floods that struck the state in August 2024.

Announcing the development, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said the floods had caused widespread damage to infrastructure, public assets and livelihoods across several parts of the state.

In a post on social media platform X, the chief minister said the state government had conducted a comprehensive Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) and subsequently submitted a detailed memorandum to the Centre seeking financial assistance for recovery and reconstruction.

“Following a comprehensive Post Disaster Needs Assessment, the State Government submitted a detailed memorandum to the Government of India seeking support for recovery and reconstruction efforts,” Saha stated.

He said the Centre had approved a total assistance package of Rs 252 crore to facilitate rebuilding and rehabilitation measures in the flood-affected areas.According to the chief minister, the first instalment of Rs 75.60 crore under the National Disaster Response Fund was released on May 26, 2026.

Saha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for extending support to Tripura during the aftermath of the disaster.

The floods of August 2024 affected multiple districts across the state, damaging roads, embankments, public infrastructure and thousands of residential properties. The recovery package is expected to strengthen reconstruction efforts and help restore essential services in the affected regions.

State officials said the funds would be utilised for rebuilding damaged infrastructure and supporting long-term rehabilitation initiatives aimed at enhancing resilience against future disasters.
