Foreign Policy During Monsoon Session: Gaurav Gogoi

New Delhi | Congress MP and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, on Friday said the party would raise a range of issues affecting citizens during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament and seek answers from the Centre on key national concerns, including the situation in Manipur and India’s foreign policy.
Addressing reporters in New Delhi, Gogoi said the Congress would focus on matters that directly impact the public and questioned whether the government was prepared to respond to concerns raised by the opposition.
“We will raise all important issues which are foremost in the public’s life. More important is: will the government answer and give its response on Ayodhya, the education system, the automobile industry, foreign policy and Manipur?” Gogoi said.
The Congress leader alleged that the government could attempt to avoid discussions on sensitive issues by disrupting the functioning of Parliament.
“My fear is that the government will not allow Parliament to run properly and it will not allow these issues to be raised because they want to run away from their responsibility on these important issues,” he said.
Gogoi also indicated that the Congress would coordinate with its INDIA bloc partners and other opposition parties before taking a unified position on bills introduced during the session.
“Once the bills come, we will discuss with our alliance partners and with other opposition parties. A decision will be taken after due consensus,” he added.
The Monsoon Session is expected to witness sharp exchanges between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition, with issues such as governance, economic challenges, foreign policy and the prolonged situation in Manipur likely to feature prominently in parliamentary debates.\
