Guwahati : The Egyptian Embassy has issued a clear statement dismissing as “forged” a document circulating on social media that allegedly shows an Egyptian passport in the name of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma.

In its clarification, the Embassy said the document is not an authentic passport. It described it as a fabricated copy, where a name and photograph were simply pasted onto a fake template to make it appear real. The Embassy also rejected claims linked to the document as “false.”

The controversy began after Congress leader Pawan Khera raised allegations that Riniki Bhuyan Sharma held an Egyptian passport. The claim quickly spread online, triggering a political row in Assam.

With the Embassy’s statement now on record, the authenticity of the viral document has been firmly denied, adding a new turn to the ongoing political dispute.
