Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt General (Retd) KT Parnaik on Monday said that every mother has a vital role in bringing up a good and capable citizen in their children.

“Like Jija Mata, who guided her son Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to rule his empire with just, good governance, inclusive of all sections of society and responsibility, every mother has a vital role in bringing up a good and capable citizen,” the Governor said while participating in the Shivaji Jayanti celebration, organised by Kreeda Bharati Arunachal Pradesh, at Golden Jubilee Banquet Hall here.

At the function, Parnaik conferred Jija Mata Puraskar, dedicated in honour of the mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, to the mothers of games & sports achievers from the state.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor congratulated the mothers of the ‘star’ sportspersons and conveyed his good wishes for their future endeavours.

He complimented the Kreeda Bharati organization for its dedicated efforts to promote sports and athletes.

Parnaik said that a strong sporting nation is a healthy and vibrant nation, and added that Khelo India is a step in the right direction to make India a sporting nation.

The Governor, while exhorting the youth of the State to go for games and sports, said that sports means imbibing leadership, appreciating team work, inculcating positive bonds and creating future leaders who are mentally agile, physically fit and morally strong. He said that youth of the State are capable and with little focus and effort, they can make games and sports a fruitful career.

Parnaik informed that to realise the vision of Sporting State, the State Government is focusing on talent scouting, creating sports infrastructure, encouraging sports in schools and colleges, establishing coaching centers, and training coaches.

On the occasion, Sorang Yaye, mother of Everester Tagit Sorang, Yukar Yami Tarh, mother of weightlifter Yukar Sibi, Emi Tayu Ete, mother of Karateka Lipin Ete, Feyang Sangdo, mother of Karateka Abab Sangdo, Yami Bayor, mother of Taekwondo player Rupa Bayor, Yajik Singhi, mother of Karateka Mesom Singhi, Biri Nikia, mother of para-badminton player Biri Yakar, B Nyodu Sora, mother of badminton player Geto Sora, Sorang Yapa, mother of archer Sorang Yumi, Bake Yaker, mother of Karateka Bake Tarium, Jaley Dodum Tayung, mother of Karateka Pala Dodum, Fem Lamgu, mother of Wushu player Mepung Lamgu, and Yania Riba, mother of wrestler Dada Riba were honoured.

Among others, All India Kreeda Bharati joint secretary Madhumay Nath, president, Kreeda Bharati, Arunachal Pradesh, Takam Tatung and general secretary B Tanchi Dollee, its North East coordinator Manoj Kumar Mohanty and former Itanagar MLA Kipa Babu attended the function. The celebration, which started with the patriotic song ‘Vande Mataram’ by students of Abotani Vidya Niketan, Pachin, saw the ‘Charan Sparsh’ or touching of feet of the mothers seeking blessings by the sportspersons. Participating students dressed in traditional attires of various tribes of the State presented a dance ‘Hamara Arunachal’.
