Triggering New Political Shift in Barak Valley
KRC TIMES Barak Valley Bureau
Silchar: Former Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev (daughter of veteran Congressman late Santosh Mohan Dev) officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday, July 9, at the party’s West Bengal state headquarters, marking a significant development in the political landscape of Barak Valley.
Her induction into the BJP comes nearly a month after she resigned from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on June 10. Her resignation had already sparked major political changes in the region, particularly in Cachar district.
Soon after Sushmita Dev’s exit from the TMC, the party’s Cachar district office in Silchar was shut down. Several local TMC leaders and workers also resigned from the party and later expressed their willingness to join the BJP.
Sushmita Dev’s entry into the BJP is expected to have a major impact on the political equations in Barak Valley ahead of future political developments.
Further details regarding her induction and the party’s plans are awaited. This is a developing story.
