SILCHAR: Four police personnel in Cachar district were placed under suspension on Wednesday following alleged negligence in traffic duty during the route-lining arrangements for the convoy of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

According to an order issued by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Cachar, the incident occurred on September 30 along the route from Chirukandi Point towards Assam Secretariat, Barak Valley, Srikona. An ambulance was reportedly stopped while the Chief Minister’s convoy was allowed to pass.

Those suspended are SI Bijoy Goswami, In-Charge of Srikona Police Post under Silchar Police Station; SI Sibsankar Das of NH Way Police Post; LNK (UB)/476 Jahurul Islam of Katigorah Police Station; and LNK (UB)/976 Kawsar Ahmed Barbhuiya of the Traffic Branch, Silchar.

The suspension has been ordered with immediate effect pending a departmental enquiry into the alleged negligence.

The personnel have been directed to report to the Police Reserve in Silchar immediately and deposit their government kits. They have also been instructed to attend daily roll call and not leave headquarters without prior permission.

The order stated that they would receive substantive allowances as admissible under the rules during the period of suspension.
