Silchar: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has unveiled a series of major promises for the Barak Valley region, focusing on employment generation and expansion of educational infrastructure ahead of the Assembly elections.

Among the key announcements, Sarma proposed conducting a special Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for Barak Valley to recruit Bengali and Hindi teachers. He also reiterated the government’s broader commitment to creating two lakh jobs, including 75,000 teaching positions and 25,000 jobs in the police department.

In a push to strengthen higher education and healthcare, the Chief Minister announced plans to establish an engineering college, a medical college, and a university in Hailakandi.

Positioning these initiatives as transformative, Sarma said the proposed projects could significantly reshape the Barak Valley over the next 15 to 20 years if implemented. He expressed confidence that the promises are achievable, citing the government’s track record in delivering on development commitments.

The announcements are seen as a key part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s strategy to strengthen its position in the Barak Valley, a region expected to play an important role in the upcoming elections.
