Imphal: Superintendent of Police (SP) Imphal West, Kshetrimayum Shivakanta Singh, on Sunday appealed to protesters to refrain from violence and unlawful activities amid escalating tensions during ongoing agitations in the valley.

Addressing a press conference at his office in Imphal, Singh expressed concern over the increasing aggressiveness witnessed during recent protests, particularly during nightly Meira rallies held across several localities.

He stated that while security forces have exercised restraint to prevent untoward incidents, some demonstrations have turned violent. According to the SP, certain anti-social elements have infiltrated the protests and engaged in acts of violence under the guise of demonstrators.

He urged the public to maintain peace and cooperate with authorities to ensure law and order in the region.
