Himanta Biswa Sarma Set for Third Term as BJP Sweeps Assam, Congress Faces Major Setback
KRC TIMES Assam Bureau
Guwahati: Jitendra Singh, the All India Congress Committee’s General Secretary in charge of Assam, resigned from his post on Monday, hours after the BJP secured a third consecutive term in the state Assembly elections.

In a letter addressed to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Singh said he was stepping down “with immediate effect,” taking personal responsibility for the party’s poor performance in the polls.
The election results saw the Bharatiya Janata Party cross the majority mark comfortably, winning 82 seats and leading in several others. Along with its allies in the National Democratic Alliance, the ruling coalition secured a total of 102 out of 126 assembly seats.
With the decisive mandate, Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to return as Chief Minister for a third consecutive term.
The outcome marks a major setback for the Indian National Congress, which had mounted an aggressive campaign but failed to make significant gains against the incumbent government.
