Guwahati : The Congress is set to intensify its campaign for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections after March 26, with party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra scheduled to address a series of public rallies across the state, party sources said.

The campaign push is expected to begin after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations, with the Congress central leadership taking charge of outreach efforts in key constituencies.

According to sources, the three leaders will focus on the party’s agenda centred on social welfare and development, while also outlining its broader vision for Assam and the Northeast in the forthcoming election manifesto.

As part of the campaign strategy, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is likely to target women voters, who account for nearly half of Assam’s estimated 2.5 crore electorate. Her recent interactions with various sections of society during her visit to the state are expected to shape segments of the party’s messaging.

Senior leaders from the national leadership are also expected to participate in multiple rallies and smaller outreach programmes, with a particular focus on constituencies in Upper Assam. The party is reportedly aiming to make gains in at least 35 seats across districts including Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Jorhat, Majuli, Lakhimpur, and Dhemaji.

Congress leaders indicated that the campaign would highlight what they describe as shortcomings of the BJP-led NDA government, while projecting the party as a development-oriented alternative. The detailed campaign schedule is currently being finalised, with top leaders expected to begin their engagements shortly after March 26.
