Haflong: The North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) in Assam has officially been renamed the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC).

An official communique issued by the council authorities stated that all departments under the council must now use “Dima Hasao Autonomous Council” or “DHAC” in all official communications, documents and records. The order was issued on Monday from the Office of the Principal Secretary at the Council Secretariat in Haflong.

According to the communique, the directive follows a notification issued on May 18, 2026, through which the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council was renamed the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council. The council authorities have directed all departments and offices under its jurisdiction to adopt the new name with immediate effect in official correspondence and records.
