Silchar: Lions Club of Silchar Valley View celebrated the 80th Independence Day at Jyotisalay Old Age Home in Malugram, Silchar, choosing to mark the occasion with elderly residents who need companionship and care.

The national flag was hoisted by Club President Sanjeev Roy in the presence of Immediate Past President Bandita Trivedi Roy, Vice President Anup Roy, Jesmin Begum, Gyaneshree Das, Pushpabati Roy (Co-PC), Sipra Bhattacharjee, Chumki Roy and others.

After the national anthem, sweets and snacks were distributed among the residents and those present. A special moment came when the residents and authorities of the old age home joined together to sing Vande Mataram.

The flag-hoisting ceremony was organised in collaboration with Rising Youth Society, Silchar. Sanjeev Roy and Gyanashree Das delivered brief speeches and highlighted the history and sacrifices of India’s freedom struggle.

Later, floral tributes were paid to statues of freedom fighters in Silchar.

In the evening, the club organised a patriotic cultural programme at College Road, Silchar. The programme was headed by Project Chairperson Pinky Singh Das. Invited cultural artists, members of Lions Club of Silchar Valley View and their families took part in the programme and enjoyed a colourful and entertaining evening.

The celebrations reflected the club’s message of patriotism, community service and companionship for senior citizens.
