Shillong : Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will begin a three-day visit to Meghalaya from May 29, during which he will review the state’s preparedness for hosting the 39th National Games in 2026 and participate in a series of programmes related to sports infrastructure and youth development.
Officials said the Union minister will inaugurate an integrated multipurpose indoor sports complex in Shillong and assess the progress of various centrally sponsored schemes during his visit.
On May 30, Mandaviya, accompanied by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, will inaugurate the indoor sports complex in the state capital, constructed at a cost of ?132.9 crore.
During the visit, Meghalaya will also formally sign the host state contract for the 39th National Games 2026 in the presence of representatives from the Indian Olympic Association and other dignitaries. Officials said the signing of the agreement marks a significant step in Meghalaya’s preparations to host the prestigious multi-sport event.
The Union minister is also scheduled to attend a brainstorming session organised by the Department of Youth Affairs, where discussions are expected to focus on youth engagement and sports development initiatives in the Northeast.

On May 31, Mandaviya will visit Ri-Bhoi district to review the implementation and progress of centrally sponsored schemes under the Poorvottar Sampark Setu initiative. Officials said the visit reflects the Centre’s continued emphasis on strengthening sports infrastructure, promoting youth participation and accelerating holistic development across the Northeastern region.
