Imphal | Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Tuesday reiterated the state government’s resolve to eradicate the drug menace through sustained and coordinated action, following a high-level review meeting with senior officials of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Imphal.

The meeting, held at the State Secretariat, focused on strengthening the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign and enhancing cooperation among enforcement agencies to tackle drug trafficking networks operating across the region.

Chief Minister Singh held discussions with R. Sudhakar, IPS, Deputy Director General (Northeast Region), NCB, and P. K. Mishra, Additional Director, NCB. The deliberations centred on improving intelligence-sharing mechanisms, reinforcing coordination between state and central agencies, and expanding collaboration with international partners to curb the illicit drug trade.

According to officials, the review also examined measures for more effective enforcement of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, with a focus on dismantling trafficking networks and strengthening legal action against offenders.

Sharing details of the meeting on social media platform X, the Chief Minister said the discussions highlighted the need for stronger intelligence gathering and seamless inter-agency cooperation to address the growing challenges posed by narcotics trafficking.

He emphasized that the fight against drugs requires a comprehensive approach involving law enforcement agencies at the state, national and international levels. “The government remains firmly committed to eliminating the drug menace through coordinated and sustained efforts,” Singh stated.

Manipur has intensified its anti-drug initiatives in recent years under the state’s campaign against narcotics, with authorities conducting regular operations against illegal poppy cultivation, drug trafficking networks and the cross-border movement of contraband. The latest review meeting underscores the government’s continued focus on strengthening enforcement and ensuring a multi-agency response to the challenge.
