NIA Probe and Scrapping of SoO After Killing of Six Liangmai Naga Civilians
KRC TIMES Manipur Bureau
Imphal: The Meitei Alliance has called on the Government of India to immediately arrest those responsible for the abduction and killing of six Liangmai Naga civilians, seek a time-bound investigation into a series of violent incidents in Manipur, and revoke the Suspension of Operations (SoO) Agreement with Kuki militant groups.
In a statement, the organisation referred to the June 25 press conference of the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), claiming that public remarks made by its chairman and spokesperson amounted to an acknowledgment that Kuki-Zo elements were responsible for the abduction and killing of the six civilians.
The Meitei Alliance described the recovery of the victims’ mutilated bodies as a shocking act of brutality. It also cited allegations by surviving abductees that they had been blindfolded and unknowingly fed meat later feared to have been human flesh. The organisation said these allegations, if established through investigation, would constitute an exceptionally grave crime.
The organisation urged the Centre to immediately arrest and prosecute all those responsible for the alleged abduction, torture, murder and mutilation of the victims. It also demanded a time-bound investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) or a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

According to the statement, the proposed investigation should also cover other major incidents of violence, including the killings of six members of a Meitei family in Jiribam, the abduction and murder of students Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit, and the killing of three Thadou pastors. The Alliance said investigators should examine not only the perpetrators but also any individuals or organisations that may have planned, facilitated, concealed or assisted the crimes.
The Meitei Alliance further demanded the immediate abrogation of the Suspension of Operations Agreement with Kuki militant groups, alleging that the arrangement had failed to ensure peace, allowed armed groups to retain their capabilities, and weakened public confidence in the rule of law.
It also urged the Government of India to ensure that no individual, organisation or militant group receives political protection or immunity from criminal investigation.
The statement concluded by asserting that justice must extend beyond public admissions and that all those responsible, including alleged conspirators and anyone accused of aiding or concealing the crimes, should be brought before the courts.
The claims made by the Meitei Alliance have not been independently verified, and there has been no immediate response from the Government of India or the Kuki-Zo Council to the latest statement.
