Nagaland: Nagaland Police has appealed to the people of the state to maintain peace, communal harmony, and social responsibility amid concerns over the prevailing law and order situation in a neighbouring state potentially affecting Nagaland.

In a press release issued from Police Headquarters in Kohima on May 22, the police urged citizens not to share or circulate unverified information, rumours, or provocative social media posts that could create panic or disturb inter-community relations in the state.

The advisory highlighted the growing threat of artificially generated and misleading online content, cautioning that fake narratives can easily spread in the digital age. Citizens were specifically asked to avoid forwarding content capable of creating ethnic or communal tensions.

Warning against the deliberate spread of fake news and inflammatory material, the police stated that individuals found engaging in such activities would face legal action under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the IT Act, and other applicable laws.

The police also requested the public to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious individual or activity attempting to disrupt social harmony and peaceful coexistence in the state to the nearest police station or the Police Headquarters in Kohima.

Stating that Nagaland has so far maintained peace and normalcy despite tensions in neighbouring areas, the police appealed for public cooperation in ensuring the situation remains stable.

“Nagaland Police assures all citizens that the situation is being closely monitored and all necessary measures are in place to maintain peace and law and order in the State,” the statement said.
