Silchar: Light rainfall on Saturday morning once again triggered waterlogging in several parts of New Silchar, particularly in the Saratpally and Link Road areas along Sonai Road, highlighting the long-standing drainage problems faced by residents every monsoon.
Even a brief spell of rain was enough to inundate roads and nearby residential areas, causing inconvenience to commuters and local residents. Water accumulated on the streets disrupted vehicular movement and raised concerns over public health and sanitation.

Residents said the situation has become a recurring problem every year during the rainy season, yet no permanent solution has been implemented. According to locals, roads in the area become submerged within just a few hours of rainfall, making daily movement difficult, especially for children and elderly people.
Shopkeepers and small business owners also reported losses due to the waterlogging, as customers avoid flooded roads and market areas during rain.
Despite repeated assurances from the authorities regarding drainage improvement and flood mitigation measures, residents alleged that little has changed on the ground. Locals believe that without a permanent drainage system and regular maintenance of existing channels, the problem will continue to affect the area every monsoon.
