Observance of Karbi Anglong Day begins

Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council was formed on June 23 1952, the oldest autonomous council of the nation

1951 November 27, the day when Karbi Anglong and North Cachar hills area was shaped as autonomous hill district of Assam, at that time both the districts were a united entity.

To commemorate the historic day, at the aegis of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council the 71st Karbi Anglong Day, 2022 observation began at Karbi Peoples Hall Taralangso, Diphu with two days program from today.

Elected representatives including the Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, MLAs, Members of Lok Sabha, Executive Members, and other dignitaries paid tribute to the heroes who made an immense sacrifices for the creation of this autonomous region.

Some of the front-line leaders who were recalled today are Sarsing Teron Habe, Samsonsing Ingti, Khorsing Terang, Sir Bey, Nihang Rongphar, Moniram Langne, Birendra Teron, and Borlong Terang.

In the morning a cultural procession of several tribal and non-tribal communities went through the avenues of Taralangso in traditional dress, beginning from the ethnic village which has been fashioned to showcase the ethnic diversity of Karbi Anglong. Karbi, Tiwa, Man Tai, Rengma Naga, Assamese, Bangali, Adivasi, Nepali, Mizo, Kuki, and Garo community youths led by elders set in motion the mega event.

In the evening local artists presented a composite cultural show, tomorrow, Neiphiu Rio Chief Minister of Nagaland will be the chief guest in the open session, the evening will be enthralled by special light and sound show and Bollywood artists like Sunidhi Chauhan, Boney Kapur, Shakti Kapur, Ritu Riba, and their group.    

It is worthwhile to mention here that in 1946 just before the transfer of power from British authority Karbi A Darbar was formed in a general meeting held at HawaiPur of present West Karbi Anglong. MLA Khorsing Terang took the lead to invite many leaders from various communities and from that forum demand was placed before the British authority for the creation of a separate autonomous zone. After the creation of the Karbi Anglong district on November 17, 1951, Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council was formed on June 23 1952, the oldest autonomous council of the nation.
