SILCHAR: Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya on Monday laid the foundation stones for two development projects worth a combined Rs.21 lakh at Tulargram Part-II under the Sonai Municipal Board in Sonai Legislative Assembly Constituency.

The projects are being undertaken under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) for 2024-25.

The first project involves the construction of a crematorium at Tulargram Part-II at an estimated cost of Rs.11 lakh. The facility is expected to meet a long-standing demand of local residents and benefit people from Tikarbasti, Dekajurai, Tulargram and nearby areas.

The second project is the construction of a Nat Mandir community hall near the historic Sonai Kali Bari Temple in Ward No. 4, at an estimated cost of Rs.10 lakh. The hall is expected to provide a dedicated space for social, cultural and religious programmes while supporting the preservation of the area’s cultural heritage.

Speaking at the programme, Suklabaidya said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, remained committed to inclusive development and the improvement of essential public infrastructure across the Silchar Lok Sabha constituency.

He also thanked the people of Tulargram for their warm welcome and continued support, saying their trust encouraged him to work with greater dedication for the development of the region.

The programme was attended by BJP Sonai Mandal president Ashok Goala, Sonai Municipal Board chairperson Shilu Rani Das, members of the temple committee, municipal representatives, BJP workers and local residents.
