Death toll rises to six, rescue operation continues

KRC TIMES National Bureau

New Delhi: The death toll in the Satya Niketan PG building collapse in south Delhi has risen to six, officials said on Monday. One more person rescued during overnight search operations was later declared dead. So far, 11 people have been rescued from the debris, while search and rescue teams continue to look for anyone who may still be trapped.

The nearly 50-year-old building collapsed on Sunday afternoon while repair and renovation work was reportedly underway on the ground floor. Police said the structure was being used as a boys’ paying guest accommodation. Authorities are also investigating claims that water accumulation in the basement may have weakened the building’s foundation.

An FIR has been registered against the building owner and others on allegations of negligence and culpable homicide. Around 70 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with teams from multiple agencies and a canine squad, are continuing the rescue and search operation at the site.
