Silchar: In a major push toward improving sanitation and strengthening public participation under Swachhata Survekshan 2026, the Solid Waste Management Cell (SWMS) of Silchar Municipal Corporation has launched an extensive awareness campaign across different parts of Silchar.
As part of the initiative, dedicated SWMS teams are conducting community and institutional awareness meetings in residential localities, commercial areas, and educational institutions to encourage citizens to actively participate in maintaining cleanliness and proper waste management practices.
The campaign focuses on promoting source segregation of waste, especially the separation of wet and dry waste at the household and institutional levels. Officials and team members are also interacting directly with residents, local businesses, and institutions to collect public feedback that will contribute to Silchar’s performance in the ongoing Swachhata Survekshan rankings.

According to the civic body, the initiative aims to create long-term behavioural change and strengthen public awareness regarding scientific waste disposal and environmental responsibility.
The teams have been visiting various wards and localities, inspecting sanitation practices and encouraging people to make waste segregation a part of their daily routine. Citizens are also being urged to cooperate with sanitation workers and support efforts to make the town cleaner and greener.
Officials stated that public participation remains one of the key factors in achieving better sanitation standards and improving the city’s ranking at the national level.
The campaign is being carried out under the broader vision of promoting a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Silchar.
