Aizawl: Lawngtlai Deputy Commissioner Donny Lalruatsanga visited Kakichhuah on Sunday to review the response to a suspected waterborne disease outbreak that has claimed six lives, including three refugees and three local residents. Calling the situation deeply concerning, he inspected the affected neighbourhood and met with officials, health workers, and community leaders.

The Deputy Commissioner thanked the Village Council and residents for their cooperation and said that a Containment Area has already been declared. He urged strict adherence to guidelines and reminded the public that movement across the Myanmar border has been fully restricted for the next two months.

Anyone crossing the border illegally for work or other reasons will face penalties, he warned. He appealed to the VC, YLA, and LWA to help authorities maintain order and ensure community cooperation.

Lalruatsanga assured that essential medical supplies including ORS, IV drips, and other items will continue to reach the village. Health workers have been advised to remain alert, respond quickly, and follow strict hygiene protocols.

With LADC election polling parties scheduled for deployment on December 1, he stressed the need to restore normalcy and ensure strong coordination during this period. Cleanliness, hygiene, and full implementation of containment measures are crucial to stopping the outbreak, he said, urging village leaders to keep supporting residents with food and medical needs.

District Hospital Medical Officer Dr. Malsawmtluanga cautioned residents to drink only boiled or purified water and maintain strict food and household hygiene. He asked people to watch for symptoms such as stomach pain and diarrhoea and to report them immediately. The medical team will continue monitoring the situation.

Kakichhuah VCP Laltlanchhuaha thanked the Deputy Commissioner for his on-site visit and welcomed the administration’s active intervention. He pledged the community’s full cooperation.

Health worker Z. D. Vanlalhruaia reported that the medical team has been stationed in the village since November 11. Of the 90 people examined, 84 showed symptoms, with most cases emerging from homes lacking proper water sources. Four patients are currently under medical care. He acknowledged the strong support offered by the Village Council and local organisations.
