According to investigators, police suspect that Dr. Gupta owns a room that had been rented out to one of the two spa centres operating inside a shopping mall in Silchar, where a recent police raid was conducted.
On Friday night, Cachar Police raided the two spa centres and detained 28 women as part of an operation following allegations of prostitution.
As the investigation progressed, police began examining the ownership and tenancy details of the premises used by the spa centres. As part of the inquiry, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta and his wife were questioned for nearly one and a half hours at the office of the Superintendent of Police, Cachar.
Police officials have not announced any formal charges against the SMCH principal or his family members. Officials said the questioning was part of the ongoing investigation, and further action, if any, will depend on the findings of the probe.
