Silchar: Prabhas Ghosh, General Secretary of Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist), has sharply criticised the recent increase in commercial cooking gas prices, calling it unjustified and harmful for common people.

In a statement issued on Saturday, he said the price of a commercial LPG cylinder has jumped from Rs.2,078.50 to Rs.3,071.50. He warned that the hike will push up food prices in restaurants, hotels, and delivery services, adding to the burden on consumers.

Ghosh also said that rising fuel prices, including petrol and diesel, would have a wider impact by increasing the cost of essential goods. He claimed that this would make everyday life more difficult for ordinary citizens.

Targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government, he alleged that cheaper oil imports from Russia and Iran have been reduced, while costlier oil is being purchased from United States companies. He argued that such decisions are shifting economic pressure onto the working population.

He urged affected sections of society to come together and raise their voices, saying collective pressure could force the government to roll back the price hike.
