Silchar: Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament and senior All India Trinamool Congress leader Sushmita Dev has resigned from the Upper House of Parliament with immediate effect, triggering fresh speculation about her political future.

In a letter addressed to Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan on June 10, Dev stated, “I do hereby resign from the membership of Rajya Sabha, which may please be accepted with immediate effect.”

She also expressed gratitude to the Chairman, the Deputy Chairman, and officials of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat for their cooperation during her tenure as a Member of Parliament.

“I convey my sincere gratitude to your Excellency, Hon’ble Deputy Chairman and all functionaries of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat extending all help and cooperation during my tenure as a Member of the Rajya Sabha,” she wrote.

Dev, a prominent political leader from Assam’s Barak Valley, joined the All India Trinamool Congress in 2021 after leaving the Indian National Congress. She was subsequently elected to the Rajya Sabha from West Bengal.

While no official reason for her resignation has been disclosed, the move comes in the aftermath of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections and is expected to fuel discussions about her next political course. Neither Dev nor the Trinamool Congress has made any formal announcement regarding her future plans.

Political observers are closely watching developments as the resignation marks another significant turning point in Dev’s political career.
