Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the Peace Unity and Development rally at Loren Thepi around 75 kilometers from Diphu, mentioned that his government is making every effort to remove Arms Forces Special Power Act wholly from the northeastern states. He said that this Act may be reserved from different parts of the region as the law and order condition has enhanced in the last eight years.

“As the (law and order) situation improved with a 75 percent reduction in violence in the state, there have been modifications in the obligation of laws. The AFSPA was first withdrawn in Tripura and then in Meghalaya, the Act is applicable in some areas of Nagaland and Manipur, and we are working speedily to revoke it completely,” Modi said.

Without mentioning Nagaland the Prime Minister said that efforts are on to resolve border disputes among states in the region in a genial manner. The fresh boundary accord between Meghalaya and Assam will give confidence to the other states to solve the issues and help them go forward.
