ASSAM RIFLES | Insurgents apprehended & contrabands recovered in Manipur

Based on intelligence, Assam Rifles in a coordinated operation apprehended two insurgents of the proscribed insurgent group PLA on 30 December.

The insurgents identified as SS Private Maibam Kanta Singh and SS Private Thoudam Anoubi Singh were reportedly involved in the recruitment of youth by luring them with fake promises.

The proactive action by Assam Rifles thus prevented the local youth from falling into the trap of the banned insurgent outfit.

Both the apprehended insurgents were handed over to Heirok Police Station for further investigation.

In another incident, acting on credible intelligence, troops of Assam Rifles launched an operation in Chandel District and foiled a major attempt at smuggling of goods from Myanmar on the intervening night of 29 and 30 December.

In the operation undertaken, Assam Rifles intercepted a convoy of 17 vehicles carrying a large consignment of smuggled cigarettes, liquor, clothes and shoes at Monsang Pantha Village. 22 individuals were apprehended in the operation.

The vehicles along with recovered items and individuals were handed over to Chandel Police Station for further action.

The market price of the recovered items is estimated to be in excess of Rs 1.5 Crore.

Further, Security forces apprehended one KIA (T) (Non SoO group) Cadre near Tuilaphai village, Churachandpur district in Manipur on 29 December.

Based on specific intelligence about the presence of a KIA (T) cadre in the area the Security forces launched an operation and apprehended the individual. The troops also recovered two M-16 rifles, four M-16 magazines, 81 rounds of ammunition and other warlike stores.

The apprehended individual along with recovered items have been handed over to Henglap Police Station, Churachandpur for further investigation.
