Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Thursday welcomed students from various parts of the country studying at the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Manipur, and at the same time lamented the lack of students from the State in the institute.

While delivering a speech at the Valedictory function of a Three Days Workshop on Drone Awareness Training Programme at the Institute’s Mantripukhri campus the Chief Minister said that the youth of the State and the region should take advantage of the presence of such a prestigious institute in the State and study at the IIIT.

IIIT is here, he said urging the youth of the State and the region to get admitted to the institute. He explained that with the presence of the institute in the State, our youth don’t need to go outside to other States like Karnataka to study IT.

Today’s world is an IT world, the Chief Minister stressed, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has put particular focus on the IT sector. Today, people in the sector, who were once working outside have returned to the country and started working in the country, making the nation one of the best in the IT Sector, he added.

The Chief Minister also expressed the need to open a Drone School in the State.

As part of the valedictory function, certificates of participation were also distributed to the participants. The workshop was participated by individuals from the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, Police, and Civil departments including Agriculture, Department of Information Technology, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Health, etc.

The valedictory function was also attended by Chief Secretary Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Dhanamanjuri University Prof. N. Rajmuhon Singh, Director IIIT, Prof. Dr. Krishnan Baskar among others.
