Assam | Dr. Sarma extends financial aid to surrendered militants

Road projects worth three thousand six hundred and seventeen crore rupees have been implemented in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong autonomous districts

“We’re committed to the successful implementation of the Karbi Peace Accord and glad to have made a beginning in this direction today at Diphu”. Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam said this last Friday after taking part in the ceremonial distribution of financial aid to the surrendered militants of various organizations which have been disbanded recently.

Dr. Sarma distributed cheques of one-time financial assistance to surrendered militants including three factions of Karbi Longri N C Hills Liberation Front, People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Longri , United People’s Liberation Army and Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger in an official function at Diphu.

Under this scheme, one thousand and thirty surrendered militants out of one thousand nine hundred and twenty six have been given rupees four lakh each as a fixed deposit. The remaining surrendered militants will be provided one-time financial assistance within a week.

During his two days tour, the Chief Minister inaugurated several schemes accomplished under Special Package to Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council for the year 2019-20 & 2021-22. This includes twelve Mini Stadiums build within Kopili, Howraghat, Langfer, Langhin, Karkanthi, Noomati, Socheng Dhenta, Dhansiri, Singhason, Sarupathar, Deopani and Nilip Member of the Autonomous Council constituency of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council at an estimated cost of rupees ten crore each.

Assam Chief Minister dedicated projects on wastewater treatment plant worth rupees sixty eight crores and ninety two lakhs for public utility and some developmental schemes for Karbi handloom weavers worth five crores, he also instated bamboo made single story district library edifice with auditorium hall one at Diphu and another at Hamren worth rupees twelve crores.

Another project i.e. bamboo made single storey district museum one at Diphu and another at Hamren town, headquarters of West Karbi Anglong district, constructed at an estimated cost of rupees ten crores. Dr. Sarma laid the foundation stone for the development of Diphu Town Lake for public pleasure under the Special Economic Package of rupees sixteen crores. It may be mentioned here that till now road projects worth three thousand six hundred and seventeen crore rupees have been implemented in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong autonomous districts.
