Synchronizing with the rest of the state, police have tightened their noose against land brokers of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong autonomous districts. However, the inconspicuous police action against this organized syndicate till now hasn’t made any significant impact; Allegedly most of the atrocious land brokerage is carried out by the well-placed employees of the land revenue department in league with the officers and higher-ups.   

West Karbi Anglong police arrested two Mandals or land assessment officials posted under Donkamokam Revenue Circle of West Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday night. The Revenue employees that were arrested are Mandal of Dwar Amla circle Mohansing Teron and Lat Mandal of Hawaipur revenue circle Ranjit Bey.

Previously Karbi Anglong police arrested two land brokers last Tuesday; most of the arrests were made in Howraghat subdivision. The arrested brokers have been identified by police as Suman Das of village Rongkut; Satyendra Das of village Tarabasa, both were arrested from Howraghat, allegedly both the brokers cracked deals within the Phuloni revenue circle of Karbi Anglong autonomous district.

Allegedly taking advantage of the atypical land revenue arrangement and classification of the sixth scheduled Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong district, the brokerage and indiscretion in land settlement, sell, and mutation is taking place on a mega-scale.

In this issue, hundreds of legal suits contested at the highest judicial level have failed to evoke any tenderable result. Purportedly maximum litigations concerning landed property located within the administrative authority of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, as a rule, are decided by nonjudicial, inapposite legal service officers or the designated arbitrators serving under the clout of the council authority.

Concerning the recurring problems of land settlement, the mindful section of Karbi Anglong autonomous district feels that a total transformation of the land revenue structure of both the autonomous districts is necessary, not only to settle the home issues but also to resolve inter-district and interstate boundary tribulations.
