333 stalls are being occupied this year

Governor of Manipur Dr. Najma Heptulla inauguarated International Textile Expo (MANITEX) in Imphal today.

MANITEX is organised with the aim to showcase all the products of handlooms, handicrafts, dyeing & printing, power loom, garment, embroidery & costume in larger scale with participation of different States and foreign countries.

333 stalls are being occupied this year which also includes participation from 12 foreign countries four from Thailand, nine from Bangladesh and one from Myanmar. 56 stalls are given by rest of Indian states a 268 local participants from Manipur which is very encouraging.

Governor Heptulla applauded the State Government and the Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles for organizing this mega event that gives platform to showcase all the products of weavers and artisan.

She echoed ‘it is gratifying to know that Seminar & Workshops on technical textiles & Loin Loom are being organized during the Expo and believe that these will have a fruitful deliberation among the experts & explore ways and means to solve the problem.

Stressing on the need to emphasis on the North Eastern States that has tremendous human resources will have impact on the nation building.

A documentary film on Handloom Tradition of Manipur titled “ Chara Iyong” was released by the Governor

Textiles, Commerce & Industry Minister of Manipur, Th. Bishwajit Singh said that by organising the Expo we can showcase our products in international arena which will in turn provide economic sustenance to the artisans.

Tripura Minister of Revenue & Fisheries Nagendra Chandra Debbarma was also present besides state MLAs and officials.
