In the backdrop of no recruitment in Tripura Police since 2017

Along with the National uproar against the Government of India’s Agniveer scheme, protests have started in Agartala also where unemployed youths preparing for the defense forces jobs have started hitting the streets. A group of youths was seen marching the streets of Agartala yesterday with the Indian Flag demanding withdrawal of the scheme.

The youth were led by a North Indian person who seems to be preparing these youths for physical fitness and informed that they are coaching for the last two years and with the no recruitments in Tripura Police since 2017, the youths are looking forward to defense forces. Now with the introduction of the Agniveer scheme, the morale of the boys has come down as they see no future in defense services.

Under the Agniveer scheme, Defence forces will recruit people only for a period of 4 years which is not going down well with the people.

Placing their arguments, the leader of the protesters states that already youths are attracted to mobile and online jobs. They are hardly attracted to the physical world and with this scheme of the government, they feel the youths of the country and particularly from Tripura will further go into their own cocoon and the country will be left with no real soldiers in the future.

They also argued why recruitment in Tripura police is not done since 2017. Is there no requirement for people in Tripura Police? It is to be noted that even though Government has given advertisements for Police, Fire brigade, and emergency services but no interview or recruitment takes place. It is an intriguing situation that these boys want answers to.

The pertinent questions raised here are the tip of the iceberg in a land locked state like Tripura where attraction to defense force and other allied para-military services including state police is many a time is the only hope for many whereas, with the introduction of the Agniveer scheme, the unemployed youths will further go into a confusion state of mind.

It is to be seen how the Government reacts to these street protests in the future. These boys voiced their anger and marched towards State Assembly, Secretariat, and Governor’s House but were stopped by Police.
