It has always been a stormy season at the end of the month of March every year.

The tea garden managers christened the phenomenon as the Chota Monsoon and we the denizens of the North East had many names for it; Bardesikhla (Bodo), Bordoichila (Assamese), Kaal Baisakhi ( Bengali) and so on.

The climate has changed in an intensity be it the rains or lack of it; the stormy seasons with pelting rains.

In the district of West Karbi Anglong under the administrative control of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council experienced incredible amount of precipitation and high velocity wind conditions in the eastern end namely Jirikendeng, Tahpat, Um-Khyrmi, Khanduli and Psiar areas, there was a freak cyclone in the Um-Mat area on April 17.

However, we received an appeal from a person calling for bringing to the notice of the district authorities about a destruction perpetrated in the forest settlement inside the Lumding reserve Forest area on April 17th.

The area named Dekabasti is within the jurisdiction of Lumding police Station; this area is in the fringe of Borlangphar reserve forest of Karbi Anglong district.

According to reports, several thatched houses belonging to Chakma and Garo tribes were razed to the ground by hailstorm and heavy rain.

Maximum families have lost their home and household belongings, food grains and clothing due to this unforeseen catastrophe, the victims have appealed for help on humanitarian ground.
