Silchar: The Silchar Sankarmath O Mission on Sonai Road observed the 117th birth anniversary of Srimat Swami Jyotishwarananda Giri Maharaj on Saturday with a full day of rituals, prayers, and devotional gatherings. A large number of devotees joined the observance.

The day opened at dawn with Mangalarati. Chandi Path was held at 9 am, followed by guru bhajans, Hanuman Chalisa, and Gita chanting at 11 am. The puja and offering to Gurudev took place at noon, and prasad was distributed among devotees at 1 pm. The celebrations ended with an evening prayer at 6.30 pm and Shantibani chanting at 10 pm.

Addressing the gathering, the head of the Sankarmath O Mission, Srimat Bigyanananda Brahmachari Maharaj, said the spiritual thought of Sanatan Dharma is earning recognition around the world.

He recalled how Swami Jyotishwarananda Giri Maharaj devoted his life to spreading the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita at a time when many were seeking guidance. He noted the monk’s focus on service to humanity and on bringing together action, knowledge, and devotion.

Management committee secretary Biplab Kumar Dey said Swami Jyotishwarananda Giri Maharaj founded Gita propagation centres across India and abroad, along with monasteries, ashrams, orphanages, charitable clinics, the Sankarmath Sanskrit College, cow-care initiatives, and a range of educational and social welfare institutions.

The programme was supported by vice president Ramu Debnath, joint secretary Sujit Mitra, Barun Dey, Beauty Dey, Suman, Rupan Mitra, Priyatosh Mitra, Tapan Dey, Shikha Dey, Mita Dey, Minty, Panna Mitra, Rupa Dey, Tuli Paul, Sangeeta Srishti Paul, Prakash Das, Rahi Acharjee, Sneha Roy and others.
