UnionTerritory Demand Committee (UTDC) a 1971 established organisation of Barak valley region of Assam vehemently condemned the decision of Assam Government to lockdown three districts of Barak Valley from 27 Aug to 4 September.

In a press conference organised by UTDC Central Committee at Silchar Press Club on 24 August, last Monday, Shankar Dey, Chief Coordinator and Spokesperson of the organisation pointed out that when Central Government policy of Unlock process is underway, then what prompted the Government that only for Barak Valley to impose such decisions by which public, in general, will be subjected to sufferings seriously.?

He highlighted that a unanimous decision of leading citizen of Cachar held with district administration decided against any such lockdown measures. So why the decision of lockdown is declared and who’s interest does this lockdown serves asked, Shankar Dey. 

This important meeting with a leading citizen was conveyed by the District Administrator after a memorandum by Merchant Association advocating lockdown.

So Dey suspects that there are some hidden agenda and the Government of the day is hellbound to serve some specific interest.

The leaders of UTDC demanded immediate withdrawal of lockdown. To face COVID crisis district administration should evolve an innovative process to unlock and not just declare lockdown, they echoed.

The Government must realise the sentiment of people and take a judicious decision, the leaders echoed.

The Press Conference was attended by Sanjit Debnath, President, Mayazul Ali Borbhuyia, Sr. Vice President, Biswadeep Gupta, National Coordinator, Mrinmoy Nath, Secretary, of UTDC Central Committee.
