Nagaon: AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal on Thursday attacked the Congress after filing his nomination for the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll, claiming that his entry into the contest had disrupted the Opposition party’s electoral strategy. Ajmal alleged that Congress leader Rakibul Hussain’s election planning had failed after the AIUDF fielded him as its candidate.

“Rakibul’s entire planning has failed because Ajmal was given the ticket. The Congress is now disappointed,” Ajmal said after filing his nomination. The AIUDF leader said his campaign would focus on issues including eviction drives, price rise, education and healthcare.

Ajmal also raised concerns over an alleged security lapse during the nomination process, claiming that his Samsung Ultra mobile phone was stolen from his personal assistant while he was leaving the venue. “Nagaon Police have not been able to provide security to us. How will they provide security to our mobile phones?” he said, questioning the security arrangements made by the district police.

The alleged theft reportedly took place shortly after Ajmal completed the nomination process. The claim could not be independently verified.
