Prof. Pant highlighted the importance of career counselling and student recognition initiatives

Silchar: In a significant initiative aimed at promoting academic excellence and career awareness among students from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities, the Assam University SC & ST Employees Welfare Association (AUSEWA) organised a career guidance programme and felicitation ceremony at the Ambedkar Bhavan Auditorium in Silchar on Sunday.
More than 100 meritorious students who secured 70 per cent or above in the recent HSLC and Higher Secondary examinations were felicitated during the event. The programme sought to recognise academic achievement while providing students with valuable guidance on higher education opportunities and future career prospects.

The event was attended by the Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, Rajive Mohan Pant, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Pant highlighted the importance of career counselling and student recognition initiatives. He stated that empowering students through timely guidance and acknowledging their hard work is an important investment towards building a more equitable and capable society.
The Special Guest at the programme was Monali Longmailai, Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics.
Presiding over the function, AUSEWA President Ramakanta Das underscored the significance of the initiative, stating that such programmes help equip students with the knowledge and resources necessary to make informed decisions about their future careers.

Several distinguished resource persons conducted expert sessions during the programme. Ajit Kumar Das elaborated on various scholarship schemes and financial assistance opportunities available to students.
Biswa Ranjan Roy spoke on the growing importance of technical competencies and soft skills in today’s competitive job market, while Ritwika Rajendra guided students on making informed choices regarding higher studies and career planning.
The programme began with a welcome address by AUSEWA General Secretary Chandrakanta Das and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ranjit Das, who also serves as a Section Officer of the association.
The event reflected AUSEWA’s continued commitment to fostering educational advancement, inclusivity, and career preparedness among students from SC and ST communities.
