Silchar : Assam Pradesh Congress Committee’s newly appointed Vice President Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhury and General Secretary Aminul Haque Laskar were accorded a grand reception at Silchar’s Kumbhirgram Airport on Tuesday. Returning from Guwahati, the two leaders were welcomed with cheers, slogans, and floral garlands by party workers and supporters in a show of renewed enthusiasm within the Congress ranks.

The warm welcome came days after the announcement of their key appointments in the Assam Pradesh Congress, signaling a fresh political momentum for the party in the Barak Valley.

Addressing media persons at the airport, Aminul Haque Laskar expressed confidence in the Congress’s resurgence across both Barak and Brahmaputra valleys. “There is a growing wave in favour of Congress. The BJP is clearly on the path of decline,” Laskar stated.

He further claimed that under the leadership of State Congress President Gaurav Gogoi, the party is poised to secure a decisive win in the Barak Valley. “Out of the 13 Assembly seats in Barak, Congress will win at least 9 with a significant margin in the upcoming elections,” he asserted.

Echoing similar sentiments, Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhury launched a sharp attack on the ruling BJP, accusing it of fostering misgovernance. “The public is fed up. There is no trace of governance or good governance in the state only misrule,” Choudhury said.

He also alleged that BJP leaders are embroiled in controversies, especially those involving the cow issue, and accused the state leadership of being disconnected from the ground reality. “From the Chief Minister to other ministers, everyone is busy with foreign tours while the situation in Assam remains neglected,” he remarked.

Choudhury did not mince words in criticizing Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging that he has violated his oath of secularism by indulging in divisive politics. “The Chief Minister is constantly playing politics over beef and Hindu-Muslim issues,” Choudhury said.

He reaffirmed that the Congress party is committed to inclusive politics. “We will take everyone along—regardless of caste, religion, or community. Our goal is to rescue Assam from the BJP’s misrule and bring back a government that works for all,” he said.

Both leaders emphasized that with collective unity and people’s support, the Congress will return to power in Assam, signaling a strong intent to mount a serious challenge in the state’s upcoming political battles.
