Guwahati: Panic gripped a village in Assam’s Tinsukia district late Sunday night after unidentified miscreants opened fire at the residence of a relative of Paresh Baruah, the chief of the banned outfit ULFA (Independent).
Sources said the incident occurred around midnight when at least two armed individuals fired multiple rounds at the house of Baruah’s younger brother, Mission Baruah. The sudden burst of gunfire created fear among local residents, many of whom rushed indoors for safety.
No injuries or fatalities have been reported so far. However, the attack has raised fresh concerns over security in the area. Police and security forces have launched an investigation and intensified patrolling in and around the locality. Officials are yet to confirm the motive behind the firing.
