In an attempt to bring technological interventions in border crime management, the BSF Tripura Frontier has adopted a smart border surveillance system.

As many as 503 surveillance cameras have been installed in the bordering areas to put a check on trans-border smuggling and other crimes, IG BSF Tripura Frontier, Patel Pijush Purusottam Das has said.

Briefing the media persons at BSF Tripura Frontier Headquarters, the BSF senior official said, “The border guarding forces are working actively to enhance vigil in the border fronts which is why small natural gaps in the borders are being plugged off. Single Row Fencing work is also underway in eight patches along the 856-kilometer-long borders here in Tripura. Six fencing gaps are already sealed off.”

On the challenges, the BSF official said that the influx of infiltrators had been identified as the biggest concern for the BSF troopers now guarding the borders here in the state.

“As many as 1018 infiltrators had been detained in the course of crossing the borders illegally. Among them, 592 individuals were trying to enter Indian territory while the rest of the others were going out. A substantial number of Rohingya Illegal Migrants also account for that.

Sharing details of the National Investigation Agency conducted raids in Tripura, Das said, “The National Investigation Agency has arrested a total of 29 individuals from Tripura who used to act as the main facilitators of the illegal immigrant. All sorts of technical and logistic support was extended through the nexus. The arrests have helped the BSF to identify the routes used for illegal migration and accordingly those areas were closed off.”
