Guwahati: Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is likely to visit Assam as part of her first official visit to India, with Guwahati expected to be among the key destinations on the proposed itinerary.
While an official confirmation is yet to be issued by either government, sources indicated that the visit may take place in early July and could feature a high-level India–Japan summit in Guwahati.
The development has generated considerable interest within the Assam government, with ministers and officials expressing optimism over the state’s increasing prominence in international diplomacy and strategic cooperation initiatives.
According to sources, the proposed visit is expected to be conducted under the India–Japan “shuttle diplomacy” framework, which facilitates reciprocal summit-level engagements between the leaders of the two countries and strengthens bilateral ties.
If finalized, the visit would mark a significant milestone for Assam, highlighting the state’s growing importance in India’s Act East policy and its role as a gateway to Southeast Asia. Further details regarding the schedule and agenda of the visit are awaited.
