Imphal : With the firing of several rounds of tear gas shells and mock bombs, the central security forces and police repelled angry mobs who tried to attack Manipur Chief Minsiter’s residence at Luwangsangbam in Imphal East district on Thursday night. They are demanding early justice for the killing of two Meitei teenage students by the suspected Kuki militants in the ongoing communal violence in the state.

Several people coming from different directions tried to attack the CMr’s residence at Luwangshanbam about 10 km from Imphal. The attacks came after Chief Minister N Biren Singh met 20 representatives of the mob at his residence.

After the meeting, the representatives stated the replies made by the CM were not up to their mark. So the agitation was intensified.

The attacks started around 8:30 p.m. and continued till the early hours of Friday. Hundreds of people from different directions including Achandbigei, Khabam Lamkhai, Koirengei, and Ibughou Marjing complex tried to attack the said residence but central security forces – RAF, BSF, and Assam Rifles foiled the efforts with the opening of tear gas shells and mock bombs.

The Assam rifles carried out a flag march in and around the Khabam Lamkhai oil pump to control the unruly situation. The situation is tense but under control, official sources said.
